The Costec YB cast iron cylinder block is a direct replacement for the Ford Cosworth 200 iron block and can be used for 2 or 4WD wet sump or dry sump applications. Also available is a 205 version with 7/8" core plugs to replace the RS500 205 version.
Cast from 250 grade flake graphite iron for outstanding strength, the block is ideally suited for highly boosted turbocharged engines. The thicker cast iron main caps are located with machined ring dowels and secured using high tensile 12.9 hex bolts.
The thicker bore walls (7.5mm average) are finished honed to 90.80mm but can be supplied from 86 - 97mm. Additionally, crankshafts up to 82mm stroke can be used without the need to relieve the block. Longer stroke crankshafts will require the block to be relieved for clearance of the big end caps/bolts. The block features "scalloping" in the crankcase for clearance of the big end bolts as standard.
The deck height is finish machined to original specification 207.5mm, but are also available with upto 223mm deck height for stroker crank applications.
Unlike the original block with limited material beneath the threaded head bolt/stud holes, this block features 10 large 25mm diameter cast pillars that extend internally from the deck and side of the block to the crankcase portion of the block, This negates the need for through studding, and allows for standard head bolts or studs to be used. Using this method means the water jacket is not breached, lessening the chance of leakage. The head bolt threads are machined at a depth to accommodate standard head bolts or an aftermarket head stud set.
The core plugs on the side of the block are machined in, it is possible to fit a turned down core plug to make the block aesthetically correct, but as there are 2 pillars behind, it is not possible to break through into the water jacket.
Finally, the new block features a deep cast lower deck. The original YB engine block has a recessed portion in the lower water jacket, the new blocks have added material here to further strengthen the block. The combination of large internal pillars, thick cylinder walls and deep cast deck provides a very strong and stable block.
